Simon Vitecek: The Vjosa River – a place to develop an understanding for biodiversity in dynamic streams; given in English
The Vjosa River is one of the last European rivers in which longitudinal and lateral stream dynamics are still intact. Therefore, this river is a prime site for learning about biodiversity patterns in minimally-impaired stream networks. Biodiversity in the region is high and the largely intact riverscape offers habitat to endangered species – including European Eel, wolf and bear. Aside these large species, there also is a fascinating mayfly to be found in the stream network.
