The genetic architecture of a host shift: An adaptive walk protected an aphid and its endosymbiont from plant chemical defenses
In their new scientific study, Peter Nguyen from the Faculty of Science and the Biology Center ASCR and his colleagues investigated genetic changes that resulted from a change of the host plant of the green peach aphid (Myzus persicae). > -

About our department
Head of the department: doc. Mgr. Tomáš Doležal, Ph.D.
Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics was established on Aug 1st 2016 by fusion of Department of Molecular Biology and Department of Genetics. Most of the research activity is focused to functional analysis of genes using various model organisms from Trypanosoma, C. elegans, Drosophila and other insects to mice. Graduate students are trained in modern methods of molecular genetics including mutagenesis, RNAinterference, transgenesis and cell culture techniques. The department is closely linked to Biology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic (Institute of Parasitology and Entomology). The department is responsible for the Experimental Biology Master’s programme and for the Molecular, and Cell Biology, and Genetics Doctoral programme.
