About the institute
The scientific activities of the Institute are closely related to biological disciplines traditional for the Faculty of Science (formerly Faculty of Biological Sciences) or the institutes of the Biology Centre of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic that co-exist and closely cooperate in one campus. Besides, new interdisciplinary research areas are developing on the border with physics, mathematics and informatics. Research activities of the Institute cover structural biochemistry, applied biochemistry, environmental and analytical chemistry, computer modelling, studies of small molecules as well as proteins and their modification using mass spectrometry or characterization of molecules and their interactions using fluorescence microscopy.
Another important role of the institute is the training of future chemistry teachers for secondary schools. The quality of the education process should be raised by the contact of students with the research and experts working in the field of their approbation. The study of chemistry at the Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia offers students a unique combination of rapidly developing chemistry, excellence in biological sciences and pleasant and friendly study atmosphere. Besides the standard study programs, we also offer the possibility to study in the cross-border bachelor and master study programs of Biological Chemistry in collaboration with the Johannes Kepler University in Linz, Austria.
