Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, University of South Bohemia (group leader Doc. Ivana Kuta Smatanova, PhD) invites applications for a PhD student positions in structural biology.
Standard duration of PhD study is 4 years, study program can be either Biophysics or Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia. Work in our lab includes collaboration and knowledge exchange with national and international colleagues; writing of grant applications, project reports, and scientific papers; participation in organization of FEBS practical crystallization course Advanced Methods in Macromolecular Crystallization and Annual Summer School in Molecular Biophysics and Systems Biology.
Research topics include structure-functional analysis of various proteins, such as biotechnologically important enzymes (e.g. haloalkane dehalogenases), higher plants membrane protein complex (photosystem II), proteins from Neisseria meningitides, etc. X-ray diffraction analysis is used as a main method, additional/alternative methods may include (but are not limited to) cryo-electron microscopy, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and computer modelling.
- Master’s degree in Biophysics, Molecular Biology or related fields;
- good working knowledge of English;
- experience with protein purification and any structural biology technique is an advantage.
