A trees in a Senegalese village are the cover photo of the June issue of the Journal of Ethnobiology
Tereza Majerovičová, ethnoarcheologist from Laboratory of Archaeobotany and Palaeoecology at Faculty of Science, USB, is the author of the photo of the month at the cover of the prestigious Journal of Ethnobiology.
The photograph shows the central public square in the village of Badon, located close to Nikolo Koba National Park in southeastern Senegal (Vest Africa). The photograph is dominated by a large kapok tree (Ceiba pentandra) and a smaller baobab tree (Adansonia digitata). The picture was taken in February 2023, during an expedition by a Czech-Senegalese team. During a later visit in February 2025, newly installed streetlights lined the access road, highlighting the ongoing modernization of these rural arears. The Czech-Senegalese team has been conducting ethnobotanical and ethnoarchaeological research in the area since 2018.
You can read about the research in the June issue of the magazine. We will also be happy to share the article on ResearchGate upon request.
