DSP specialist boards
Information for PhD students
Study in Doctoral study programmes takes place under the guidance of the supervisor and in accordance with the student's individual study plan (ISP). The professional level of the doctoral study programme is the responsibility of the Specialist Board (SB), whose members are to be appointed and dismissed by the Dean after approval by the Scientific Board of the faculty for no longer than the period of validity of the accreditation of the given study programme. The SB is to have at least five members - these may be professors and associate professors or experts in the field.
Competencies of the SB are of e.g. preparation of the admission procedure for the study programme, initiation and coordination of programme of lectures, seminars and other forms of study, determination of requirements for ISPs and theses of students and their approval, monitoring of students’ work and success of supervisors in doctoral students guidance, proposing to the Dean any withdrawal of scholarships and termination of student’s study (in the event of serious non-fulfilment of an ISP), determination of requirements for State Doctoral Examinations and defences, and solution of specific cases.
The Chair of the SB is to be the guarantor of the Doctoral study programme. Only an associate professor or full professor appointed in a field that corresponds to the given study programme or a closely related programme and who has engaged in scientific activity in the given field in the previous five years can be a guarantor. The guarantor must have a full-time job at FSci USB. Among the chair’s responsibilities belong e.g. the activities of the SB, the preparation of documents needed for accreditation of the study programme, communication of the provisions of the Faculty/University concerning doctoral studies to the supervisors and and solution of specific cases.
For details about the organisation and competencies of the Specialist Board and the Chair, read Provision D 62 – On the Organisation of Study in the Doctoral Study Programmes at Faculty of Science USB.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CREATIVE ACTIVITY
During the course of the study, the student works on his/her own project with the aim of obtaining results for the preparation of a dissertation, thereby demonstrating the ability and readiness for independent activity in the field of research and development. The dissertation must contain original results published (or accepted for publication) in peer-reviewed international journals. A reasonable number is considered to be 2 publications, with the doctoral student being the main author of at least one of them. If the dissertation consists only of articles supplemented by a brief introduction, the student must be the author or co-author of at least four impactful publications. The preferred form is a brief overview of the achieved results together with their summary discussion in the context of world literature, supplemented by individual publications as appendices.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CREATIVE ACTIVITY
Creative activity is the main focus of studies in DSP. The student works systematically on the topic of his/her dissertation, which is approved by the supervisor each semester by awarding credit for Doctoral Practice. During the 1st year of study, the student prepares a critical literature search on the topic of the dissertation, from which the hypotheses of the dissertation and the proposed methodology arise (the literature search approved by the supervisor will be evaluated by the subject council, which may return it for additions or revisions; the OR's favorable opinion serves the OR chairman to award credit). The student presents the progress of his/her dissertation project annually at a subject seminar and submits it to the subject council as part of the Annual Report. He/she presents partial results of his/her professional work at least once during his/her studies at an international conference and in the form of professional articles. At least one first-authored article and at least one article in a journal with IF > 0.5 are part of his/her dissertation.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CREATIVE ACTIVITY
The student works on his/her own research project with the aim of obtaining results for the preparation of a dissertation. The work on the project is carried out under the guidance of a supervisor and, if necessary, in collaboration with other students, teachers and scientists, but the student must demonstrate the ability and readiness for independent work in the field of research and development. The work on the project is checked by the supervisor and credit for doctoral practice is awarded each semester. The Departmental Board checks and approves independent creative work on the basis of the Annual Report. Research work must meet the requirements for this type of work (see the Dean's Measures on the Organization of Studies in Doctoral Study Programs). The student must conduct a literature search on the topic of the dissertation (usually in English and in the Czech study program) during the first year of study and present the results of his/her work at an international conference.
The dissertation must consist of at least three articles or manuscripts, at least one of which has already been published or accepted for publication in a journal that has had an IF ≥ 0.5 in the last four years and where the doctoral student is the first author. A collection of professional articles is accompanied by an introduction of at least 10 pages, including literature, and a summary of at least 5 pages, which makes it clear how the dissertation has contributed to expanding knowledge of the studied topic and, if applicable, the scientific field. The dissertation is usually written and defended in English, even for students of the Czech study program.

REQUIREMENTS FOR CREATIVE ACTIVITY
The student works on his/her own topic with the aim of obtaining results for the development of a dissertation, thereby demonstrating the ability and readiness for independent activity in the field of research and development. Continuous performance is checked by the supervisor by awarding credit for doctoral practice and once a year by the OR based on the Annual Report. The student must personally present the results of his/her work at at least one international conference. The work must meet the requirements for this type of work (see the Dean's Measures on the Organization of Studies in Doctoral Study Programs). The dissertation must consist of at least three manuscripts, at least one of which is accepted for publication in a journal that has had an IF ≥ 0.5 in the last four years and where the doctoral student is the first author. Professional articles are accompanied by an introduction of the required scope, from which it is clear how the dissertation contributed to expanding knowledge of the studied topic and, if applicable, the scientific field. The student must conduct a critical literature search on the issues of the dissertation during the first year of study and present the results of his/her own work at an international conference.
