The aim of the course is to introduce students to the basics of plant interactions with microorganisms (mostly pathogens) with emphasis on plant immunity.
An introduction to the principles and applications of stable isotope analysis in organisms, ecosystems and global biogeochemical processes, combining theoretical background with practical training.
The course Plant Physiology is a condensed version of the Czech course Plant Physiology KEBR/220. The lecture is recommended for doctoral students (Integrative Biology - Plant physiology section) to complete their education (if needed), and for other students of English programs, incl. incoming Erasmus students.
The course covers fundamental principles of bioenergetics, including energy conversion, membrane transport, electron transport chains, respiration, oxidative phosphorylation, and photosynthesis. It also introduces current research topics and the evolution of bioenergetic processes.
The course introduces bioinorganic chemistry and biophysics in plants, focusing on metal uptake and transport, essential trace elements, metal toxicity, and detoxification. It also covers spectroscopic and biochemical methods used to study metals and metalloproteins, with training in scientific literature analysis and presentation of research data.
Building on the previous course, students gain hands-on experience in bioinorganic chemistry and plant biophysics through independent research projects. They apply advanced analytical and biochemical methods, data analysis, and scientific interpretation to study metal uptake, toxicity, detoxification, and metal–protein interactions, culminating in a scientific report and conference-style presentation.
