Financial support for PhD students (International students)

PhD students of the Faculty of Science, University of South Bohemia, are provided with financial support in accordance with Czech legislation and the internal regulations of the University of South Bohemia. The overview below summarizes only those forms of financial support that are applicable to international PhD students enrolled in full-time doctoral studies.

Doctoral study income

Doctoral study income represents a guaranteed minimum income for PhD students enrolled in full-time doctoral study programmes. It applies to students admitted to their first doctoral programme from 1 September 2025 onwards, for the full standard period of study.

The doctoral study income amounts to at least 1.2 times the minimum wage. It may be provided in the form of:

  • a scholarship,
  • a salary,
  • or a combination of both.

The specific form and amount of support depend on the individual funding arrangement (faculty resources, research projects, or cooperating employers) and are guaranteed for the entire standard duration of study.

Scholarships under the Scholarship Regulations of the University of South Bohemia

Accommodation scholarship

International PhD students may be granted an accommodation scholarship if they:

  • are enrolled in full-time degree studies at USB (not only in a short-term mobility programme),
  • have not exceeded the standard period of study,
  • meet the conditions defined by the Scholarship Regulations of the University of South Bohemia.

The accommodation scholarship is awarded for a scholarship period usually corresponding to the calendar year and is paid in quarterly instalments. In the first scholarship period, the student applies; in subsequent periods, the scholarship is generally awarded automatically if eligibility conditions continue to be met.

This support is awarded in connection with specific funding schemes, projects or mobility programmes and may be granted either upon the student’s request or by decision of the faculty or university. These scholarships are not entitlement-based and depend on the conditions of the respective programme.
