Petr Pokorný is a new member of LAPE

Petr Pokorný, a prominent Czech paleoecologist and environmental archaeologist, has joined the ranks of the scientific staff of the Laboratory of Archaeobotany and Paleoecology of the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice since the beginning of 2025.
Author and co-author of about 170 scientific articles in prestigious international journals, he has collaborated with LAPE on several projects over the years. In the Faculty of Science, USB České Budějovice he obtained his PhD 25 years ago. He worked at the Institute of Archaeology of the Academy of Sciences in Prague. Later, he was also the director of the Centre for Theoretical Studies, a joint institute of Charles University and the Academy of Sciences of the CR, where under his leadership, a number of important editorial works were produced. His arrival will certainly give our department new energy and dynamism. Petr Pokorný has been conducting research in our country for many years, focusing on the issue of landscape changes in the Late Pleistocene and the Holocene. He has also worked in Africa, to which he has devoted himself as the main author and editor of several influential papers and books.
Petr Pokorný will continue his research in the LAPE team, mainly on the paleoecology of the Holocene, with a focus on the dynamics of landscape change and the interconnectedness of humans and nature.
