About the programme

Parasitology is a multidisciplinary field, specialized in studying multipartite interactions ofamong parasitic (and symbiotic) organisms, their hosts, and natural environment. Due to their biological properties, parasites represent an excellent model for approaching many general biological and evolutionary-ecological patterns. Processes affecting the distribution and modes of parasite transmission in host communities are studied on model parasite-host systems. In addition to experimental research, parasites are also studied in natural conditions with the aim to reveal their role in the formation of different types of biocenoses. Attention is also payed to the potential use of parasites as bioindicators showing the extent of degradation of the natural environment. Currently offered topics of dissertations provide the study program a multidisciplinary overlap with the fields of molecular biology, ecology and evolutionary biology. The program is accredited jointly with the Biology Centre of AS CR in České Budějovice
