EcoSocMan Summer School 2026

This year, the annual international EcoSocMan Summer School was organized by our partners at Ulm University, Germany.
A total of 23 students participated in the two-week programme held from 7 to 18 September 2026. Students and lecturers came from partner universities across Europe, including Goethe University Frankfurt, the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, the Estonian University of Life Sciences in Tartu, the Ukrainian National Forestry University in Lviv, Aix-Marseille University, and Ulm University.
The summer school combined field excursions and interdisciplinary workshops on a wide range of environmental and sustainability-related topics. Participants visited several important ecological and conservation sites in the region, including:
• Swabian Alb Biosphere Reserve (Biosphärengebiet Schwäbische Alb)
• Botanical Garden of Ulm University
• Federsee and the Pfrungener-Burgweiler Ried Museum
• Leipheimer Moos
The excursions focused primarily on ecosystem conservation and restoration, meadow, wetland, and forest management, socio-economic relationships, as well as applied and scientific field experiments and analyses. The workshops covered a variety of interdisciplinary subjects, including soil carbon cycle modelling, carbon footprint assessment, paludiculture, forest transition, remote sensing, discourse analysis, and media production.
In addition to gaining new knowledge and practical skills, participants benefited greatly from the experience of international and intercultural collaboration. The outputs of the workshops, including short videos and social media posts created by the students, will be made publicly available through the project's official YouTube channel and Instagram account.
