On Monday, October 13, 2025, we placed a time capsule in the O building which is being revovated. The capsule captures a moment in the 34-year history of our faculty.
The capsule containes a letter from the dean, photographs of the faculty buildings and campus, several gifts, information about the faculty, and messages from students and staff.
Also, because we are proud of our roots, we included seeds from a hawthorn tree planted by the very first students of what was then the Faculty of Biology in 1992. We know very well that if everything goes according to plan, the seeds will be long dead by the time the box is found again. But genetic information is tenacious, and perhaps technologies will be available by then that can bring it back to life.
We hope that our colleagues from the future will discover this time capsule when renovating Building O into a better and more modern space for the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia and its talented students and scientific teams.
We believe that the Faculty of Science will not only continue to function, but will also retain its spirit of a friendly and family-like faculty, where students are treated as younger colleagues from the very beginning.
