Two New Professors Appointed at the Faculty of Science, USB
On June 1, 2026, a ceremonial event took place in the Great Hall of the Carolinum, during which 93 new professors were appointed. They received their appointment decrees from President Petr Pavel, in the presence of the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Robert Plaga.
The Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia is pleased to congratulate the newly appointed professors affiliated with the faculty and appreciates their long-term contributions to both research and teaching.
Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Ing. Jan Valdman, DSc.
(Field: Applied Mathematics)
Based on a proposal from the Scientific Council of the University of West Bohemia in Pilsen, Prof. Dr.rer.nat. Ing. Jan Valdman, DSc. was among those appointed in the field of applied mathematics.
He is affiliated with the Faculty of Science of the University of South Bohemia, where he works at the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science. His teaching focuses primarily on numerical mathematics, optimization methods, and algorithms. His research is devoted to applied and numerical mathematics, in particular the finite element method, optimization, and mathematical modelling in continuum mechanics.
At the same time, the title of professor was also conferred upon:
Prof. Mgr. Hassan Hashimi, Ph.D.
(Field: Molecular and Cell Biology and Genetics)
Based on a proposal from the Scientific Council of the University of South Bohemia, Prof. Mgr. Hassan Hashimi, Ph.D. was also appointed in the field of molecular and cell biology and genetics.
He has been working at the Faculty of Science since 2009 at the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. Among other roles, he is a co-founder of the Master’s degree programme Functional Genetics and Bioinformatics, a member of the board of the doctoral programme Integrative Biology, and the course guarantor of Cell Structure and Function and Scientific Writing for Experimental Biologists.
