We are proud to announce that our PhD student Gabriela Krejčová, from Adam Bajgar’s Laboratory at the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice, has achieved significant international recognition. She was named one of three finalists for the EDS Best PhD Thesis Prize 2025, awarded by the European Drosophila Society (EDS).
Gabriela was recognized for her dissertation titled “The Role of Macrophages in the Regulation of Systemic Metabolism in Drosophila”, which brings new insights into how immune cells influence metabolic processes in the body. Her research, conducted using the model organism Drosophila melanogaster, contributes to a deeper understanding of the connection between the immune system and metabolism – a topic with potential implications for human health research.
The EDS PhD Thesis Prize is awarded biennially by the European Drosophila Society to honor outstanding doctoral theses in the field of biology using the Drosophila model. The award includes not only a financial prize but also the opportunity to present research findings at the prestigious European Drosophila Research Conference (EDRC).
We warmly congratulate Gabriela on this exceptional achievement and thank her for representing our institution on the international scientific stage!
